IMO, Van Halen began to bite after Roth was gone. How many songs can we have with the word love in it?

I've heard the numbers they're drawing are pretty weak.

If it wern't for seeing Dave Lee Roth with VanHalen supportin Sabbath, maybe I wouldn't of got into Rock music.
DLR was my hero for a few years.!
Still have the 1st VH album on vinyl, scratched to bits mind. It was the 1st real rock band I went out and bought the album of! Never heard them before the gig, but the very next day went out and bought the album from HMV. Couldn't wait to get it home and crank it up!

I managed to get the autographs of Eddie Van Halen and Michael Anthony way back during the period of the Van Halen 2 release about 1979/1980? Got the Album signed and still have it.
I waited all day from what I recall outside the Birmingham Odeon in the cold and the rain. Box of sarnies with me(how sad). Got the 2 as I said. When it came to Diamond Dave entering the stage door, his bouncers pushed me and a few others aside, to let him through. I recall he had his shades on, a big fur coat and was carrying a big ghetto blaster.
Never quite saw him in the same light after that, although was still a fan of the music.

2. Why didn't you see him the same ever again? That sounds like the "Dave" I would have always expected. The cocky, "I am God" type of guy. He never seemed to me to ever being a cool, down to earth, kind of guy. As a young-un, I expect though that you may have hoped for that. When I was a kid, all it took was seeing the poster inside Woman And Children First and I was effectively creeped out by the guy and no money on earth could get me anywhere near that guy! LOL!!!

He was a hero to me at the time and I suppose let down that he didn't give me the time of day or his autograph. I saw him as the rockstar that he was/is after. But still I have the memory still.

I saw Van Halen 3 times with Roth. Women & Children First tour which was awesome. Diver Down and 1984 both were great. Then I saw VH with Hagar on the 5150 tour....yawn. Just wasn't the same. Then I saw DLR on both the Eat em and smile/Skyscraper tours. Both times were great, had a blast.

I never met the VH crew but did meet Roth. A friend and myself were driving around downtown and heard on the radio that Roth was up next being interviewed. We were only about 5 blocks away so we went down to the station. Their were about 20 people hangin' around outside waiting for DLR. So we joined them. Keep in mind this was November and was quite chilly. Roth came out and everyone rushed him like papparazi. He barked out laughing "whoa whoa whoa, we're not playing football, how y'all doing! He stuck around for about 30-40 minutes signing stuff for people and was totally cool.

This kid gives em' a 5150 tour book to sign....and people are grumbling what are you doing. The kid was oblivious that Roth wasn't in the band. I remember him saying "what is this! laughing and looking around at us. He said, ya' ever notice Sammy Hagar looks alot like Bette Middler? and we all laughed. He was cool about it and signed a piece of paper for the kid.

After that I always held Roth in the category of totally cool. I was expecting him to be an arrogant, and egomaniacal based on the rumors I had heard. I've met tons of "rock stars" and he was by far one of the coolest.

Roth is/was like the Mr.Vegas of Rock n Roll. If VH are doing this tour for money and lets face it they are. Then they are not very smart business men. If they did a re-union tour with Roth it would sell out guaranteed and they'd make a whackload more dough than they are with Hagar.

Ah, I get it. I hate it when idols crush your hopes. Though, as odd as it is, I don't think Roth would be so beloved by the world if he was a down to earth guy. I bet he would have been forgotten long ago. But by his being the ultimate rock star (really, nobody to this day has ever come close to the "rock star" life as he was, he is the ultimate definition) and treating people like he did, and acting the way he did, it all clicked.
